We like it indie!

Bronx River Parkway | coming soon

Bronx River Parkway, New York's premier Latin-soul band, will release their full-length album San Sebastian 152 on July 29th. Backed by Truth & Soul as well as Candela Records, these 10 tracks of Latin funk and soul will be their first release since their 2005 7" single, which has heightened anticipation for a proper full length release.

San Sebastian 152 will be released on Truth & Soul, a Williamsburg-based modern vanguard of said genre, formed by Leon Michels and Jeff Silverman. They were house musicians for Soul Fire Records and came together to form Truth & Soul when Soul Fire dissolved in 2004. The pair are known for remaining faithful to the deep roots of the soul genre with artists like Bronx River Parkway, Black Velvet, Lee Fields & The Expressions, and Timothy McNealy on their roster.

PrefixMag.com says:

"Such pure joy erases any commercial pretense about the label's efforts and demonstrates Truth & Soul's commitment to maintaining the legacy of independent music."

Among the 20+ musicians of Bronx River Parkway is legendary lead singer, Sammy Ayala, an original member of Cortijo y Su Combo. He has been regarded as "The most consistent figure on Puerto Rico's musical journey from folk to popular," according to The Hispanic Information and Telecommunications Network. Ayala brings his trademark energy, stirringly passionate vocals, and floor-stomping performance to San Sebastian 152, which encourages engagement between the audience and performers in both live performances and through their recordings. This, in conjunction with the other talented souls of the orchestra, makes the album a force of nature: powerful, strong, and certain to make you move.

"La Valla" | download

The Hispanic funk jams of San Sebastian 152 are the product of diverse influences and the musical dynamism of all involved. "La Valla" is a timeless groove that begs listeners to get down, while steamy tracks like "Nora Se Va" and "Agua Con Sal" slow things down while heating them up. With San Sebastian 152, Bronx River Parkway seek to reignite interest in music inspired by groups from the golden age of funk and soul like The Lebron Brothers, Apollo Sound, and Ocho. The myriad cultural influences and experiences of the group, combined with Ayala's golden voice, have made this album a mix of varying musical genres in a fresh and innovative way.

San Sebastian 152 it doesn't get better than this!

Bronx River Parkway & Candela All Stars—San Sebastian 152

Coming out of the Brooklyn boroughs (already home to the revivalist soul sounds of Daptone Records's Sharon Jones & The Budos Band), up-and-coming record label Truth & Soul has slowly birthed marvelous resurrections of funk, Latin soul and Afro-funk that, until now, usually resided on white-jacketed 45s. As their second full-length release, they've nailed the sound of 1970s New York, where black and Latin styles merged to create a free-spirited exchange of salsa, funk, and fusion. With a name that salutes the salsa heritage of Eddie Palmieri's super group Harlem River Drive, Bronx River Parkway have issued a spectacular debut, full of tight horn arrangements that seem to slip and slide within each other, and a rhythm section that suggest the flair and heartbeat of Cuba's finest. Teaming up with legendary Puerto Rican salsa musicians in San Juan, San Sebastian 152 is as top notch as an undiscovered Buena Vista Social Club recording, as impressive of a release you'll find all year. Highly recommended.

San Sebastian 152
Truth & Soul

Bronx River Parkway makes their debut on Truth & Soul with one of the best Latin jazz funk records that I've heard. This timeless sound is a collective product of Pablo Rodriguez (of Candela Records) and artist Rostarr that successfully presents the diverse sounds of Puerto Rico's brilliant music scene. Excellent recording and overall soulful aesthetics make this album sound like it could have existed in the atmosphere of your favorite bodega twenty years ago. Veiled with the aged samba beats of the past, heightened with finger tapping instrumentals and coalescing vocals. San Sebastian 152 boasts the type of relentless sounds that make the forehead sweat. I like it. – Kelly D Williams, Mannerist Zine

Latest Disc Review from Candela

Although we excel at providing tourists a real Puerto Rican atmosphere; the Candela family began with, and still thrives, as a record label.

Check out this recent review about our latest album San Sebastian 152 (Truth & Soul) by Now Magazine in Toronto.

Wow a lot of work , but is worth it.

Yes we worked a lot this week. We almost finish the deck in the second floor. Basically was all destroyed and now looks amazing, is now one of the best spots in the building.

e also recieved a few twin beds for the small rooms. And also we bought new bed sheets and towels check the photos the room with 2 beds is only $60. You can see the view from the window on the $75 room. We took the old windows there and we will put a wood top on the small wall , so the guest have another great area to have some wine or beer. You can also see the new sheets and towels Niiice!

The roof is looking amazing, it rain a little so we had no time to finish it. A very important news is that we have hot water in all the rooms , yeah.

You can see the ocean from this photo and San Jose Church one of the oldes churches of the Americas. Behind it is El Morro our main fort.

On this side of the terrace you can see Bacardi Factory in Cataño, you have to take the ferry to go there. Is a nice trip, but we recomend you try Barrilito Rum or Don Q that are a lot better. We still have a lot of work, but we are hot this summer so stay in tune for more updates.

Not everything is construction

Of Course here is a photo of my kids and my nephews at the beach in Guanica.
